Sterling Hill Mine and Museum

Photos from the author's collection.  Pictures 1 and 2 are of Pete's bike.  Picture 4 is the outside road tunnel on the way to the mines. Picture 9 is the Rainbow Room. Picture 12 is of the stairwell in the office building.

Photo 1 - Vintage tags from the mines sold on Ebay. Photo 2 - Original article on the accident shared by Leslie Pedersen.  Victim Louis Davenport Junior was the great grandfather to Shawn Mazur. When interviewed, Shawn informed me that he and his family are certain that Louis Davenport Junior is haunting the mines. Family members and others in his home in Ogdensburg have seen a full-blown apparition of him on several occasions. The apparition stepping out of the shadows in the mine is believed to be him. Interesting tidbit of information: Shawn inherited the pocket watch his great grandfather was wearing the day of the accident. The hands on the watch are broken from the mine accident.

The last two pictures were taken consecutively. One moment no smoke, the next there is smoke. PC Maryann Taylor
